Thank you very much!非常感谢！在接下来的时间里，我将和大家一起分享一下学英语的苦辣酸甜。最主要的，是想通过我在北大六年教学经历、美国六年生活经历、“新东方”六年教学经历，来和大家交流一下怎能样尽快的提高大家的listeing and speaking comprehensions.
我的经历具体是这样的：我是1980年从内蒙古考到北大的，比大家高了好多届。我在北大学英文，然后又在北大教书。教书六年之后，在1990年，我求学到美国。我发现到了，美国一下飞机，我一句话也听不懂。当时我想，至少我学了几年英文，所以打算继续学英文。正在我在考虑到哪里去的时候，我听到一种说法，叫做everybody in American can speak English。那么我又怎么能够在美国赚钱呢？所以，我必须改变这个想法。于是我该学了学计算机。计算机硕士毕业以后，我在美国的贝尔实验室做了两年的软件工程师。在1995年，“新东方”的创始人俞敏洪来到了美国，在他的建议下，我有回国，开始参加“新东方”的创建。我和俞敏洪在北大是同班同学——“新东方”的五个“创业元老”里有三个是北大的同学。除了我们两个还有一个是“新东方”的图书总策划包凡一老师，他是“新东方”的写作专家。我在大学时代是他们的班长，他们两个当时是全班最落后的学生。我那时的主要精力和时间都花在每天晚上陪他们两个在湖畔散步，劝

在美国的时候我学计算机之前，还有一段小插曲。那就是我险些报考了哈佛的人力学系。我离开北大之后，吸引我的学校只有两所，一所是英国的`牛津大学，就是Oxford University；另一所呢就是Harvard University。那时候，哈佛大学人力学系的系主任，对我进行了面试之后觉得可以录取我，并且提出可以给我提供五年的Scholarship。他说：“你只要答应我一个条件，”我说：“什么条件？”——这个教授研究的是非常偏的一个科目，所以招生好多年都没有找到一个合适的学生。他是在人力学系研究中国文化中苗族文化的。——他说：“只要你跟我学苗语，我就给你奖学金。”我说：“可以。”但是，我冷静下来之后想：我拿了这些钱，在五年之内，过的是天上人间的日子。就算不能从哈佛大学毕业，也能够肄业。将来至少能够跟孙子夸口说，爷爷当年进过哈佛。但是这还不行，因为我拿到这个学位，最终的目的是要找个饭碗。我就考虑，在北美这样大片的土地上，有多少地方需要我这样的人才呢？——苗族文化专家。通过“研究”，我发现，全北美只有一个地方需要，就是哈佛大学、人力学系、这位老师。所以，如果全北美只有一个机会，他的目标里只有我一个人，那么这个机会对我来说是百分之百的！但是，五年之后，我仍然处于一个非常劣势的地位。我如果能在哈佛大学拿到学位，接下来的梦想就是当上哈佛大学的教授、终身教授。美国大学关于终身教授的规定：只要这个教授不去世，你就别想替代他。我想，万一我六十岁就“夭折“了，那位教授八十多岁还健在，我也还是助教。想到这儿，我就对那位教授说：“I want to learn something different。”
当时是1990年，计算机在美国变得popular。而且招生的指标还有70个，我觉得这是个attract opportunity，于是决定学计算机。如果学计算机，我就可以成为一个“计算机科学家”，就可以make money。但当时，我已经十年没摸过数学了，计算机也从来没有接触过。我想，我能不能学计算机呢？我用亚里士多德的“三段论”来推导这个问题：计算机是人发明的东西，凡是人都应该懂人发明的东西。最后，如果我学不了计算机，我就不是人。得出这个结论之后，我就要做一些实际的调查，看一看计算机到底是什么。我到了纽约最大的书店，看看计算机架上到底有些什么书。其中有两架书，

First of all, the Internet has brought people great convenience in getting information, entertainment and contact with each other. As for our students, it is a useful tool when we meet problems. When we are tired, a piece of light music will help us relax. If we have free time, we can enjoy movies or interesting cartoons. What’s more, we can also watch live programs on the internet or see it later if we are not available at that time.
But there is also bad influence. Some of the young teenagers are addicted to computer games, and some even play games all night. Because of lacking in sleep, those students can not focus on in the class . As a result, they may fail in the exam. When they realize it is wrong to spend too much time playing games, it’s already too late.
I have remembered such a piece of news . An excellent student flunked (考试不及格) because he could not concentrate on his study for being too indulged in computer games. He spent nearly all the money on games, which was earned by his father's selling blood. When his father knelt down to beg him to return to school, he was too numb to show any regret.
The most serious harm of computer games come from their contents, which affects teenagers ' mental health. Many games involve violence, such as fighting and killing. When they enjoy the pleasure of success, a violent turn of mind is developed and rooted in them, which may induce future violent behaviour in their life.
So when computers' entertaining function is highly spoken of ,such a problem does deserve our serious concern.
In addition, long time's working before computer also does harm to health. The radiation from the computer can arose many uncomfortable feelings., like a headache, poor eyesight.
At last, people who are fond of making friends on line should also be careful. Many convicts use Internet as a way to cheat. Although it has many disadvantages , Internet has become an indispensable part of people's life in recent years. In my point of view, it’s wrong to blame Internet itself, it’s all depend on the way we use it. If we use it in a right way, it can be one of the best friends in our life. That 's all , thank you !

students are free but polite and they respect each other. they can leave at 4:00 every afternoon, or perhaps earlier. they have the freedom to organize time. they can go to the library, go to the lab, the computer rooms or the playground. they’re self-motivated and have a strong thirst for knowledge. and there are no frequent exams and rankings. students won’t be forced to wear uniforms everyday, and there is no required hair style. everyday is so colorful that they are looking forward to the next day when going to bed at night,every teacher in this school can give a course as they like. there is no tedious rating, no scraps of quantitative management and no rigid standard. teachers can fully display their personality in class, and they feel very happy and content to teach. every morning, on thoughts of giving lessons, they are excited. after class, they are delighted , with smiles on their faces. some experts, scholars and masters are also visiting teachers in this school.yang zhenning can give physics classes for a day. yi zhongtian opens lectures on chinese culture for a week. speaking of music, we can ask wang lihong to give music lectures, just as he did in oxford university. if necessary, we can also invite david beckham to speak something about the world cup …
the principal of the school focuses on education rather than waste time in endless meetings and social activities. teachers’ wages are not high but enough to live comfortably. there are no other things to do except to teach. there are no paper requirements, no titles and no ranks because they don’t need to be judged by those things. almost every teacher is a well-known scholar and master in a particular field. a language teacher may be a writer at the same time. a math teacher may try to overcome a world-class guess. a physics teacher can win invention awards and a music teacher may return from an international music competition again.
in short, in this school, the principal is satisfied, the teachers are happy and the students are joyful. that’s my dream.
